We were very sad to hear of John's passing; Colin and I have good memories of meeting him near Abersoch in the early 2000s along with Mum, for John MacKenzie's art exhibition. We remember his cheerful and gregarious nature, and are so sorry we didn't get to know him better. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. Lesley

Very sad to hear that John had passed away. I will always guard very pleasant memories of our meetings over drinks in Chester in the mid-to- late 70s and early 80s, often discussing our shared appreciation of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, and of our last drinks together in North Wales in the early 2000s. Always interesting and interested as a partner in conversation; my condolences go out to his whole family. Peter Cooke.

Whilst staying with us on one occasion, Gilly and John were helping in the garden
in which there were rather a lot of outsized thistles !! John took on the job of removing them, quite
a task that took most of the morning. Finally, having removed the last stubborn thistle, he went in
to make a cup of tea. Whilst he was gone, Budgie rescued the largest thistle John had removed and
replanted it in the otherwise empty flowerbed in front of Johns deckchair.
John returned, cuppa in hand and sat in his deckchair….he did a double take, scratched his head
and looked utterly perplexed as the thistle took centre stage in front of him. The rest of us
meanwhile were trying to hide behind the bushes suppressing giggles. John, got up, and with gloves
on went to remove the mysterious thistle, nearly falling over backwards as it came out so easily.
Just wanted to share one of our many happy memories of our wonderful brother in law, John. You
will be greatly missed. Meryl & Budgie xx
